Annual Public Order Training
April 20 through April 22, 2016 the downtown Bike Unit hosted it annual Public Order Training. The school is designed to provide the necessary instruction and training to facilitate the peaceful and lawful expression of views and ideas of demonstrating citizens, utilizing a different approach than riot tactics. The goal of this class is to provide an additional level of response to public order or crowd management using mountain bicycle officers. Officers learn how to manage a crowd, work a crowd and remain safe within the crowd.
This year we trained over 90 officers from 14 different agencies around the State of Texas. This class would not be possible without the support and training we receive from our partnership with the Calgary Police Service in Canada. Thank you to our mentors Staff Sergeant Kevin DeVillenfagne and Sergeant Andy Comber.
